Last week was a big week for Simpson Cross Country with wins at two different meets. The team participated in the Caleb Coleman Invitational at Columbia Academy on October 12 and the Watson High School Meet at Mississippi College on October 16. The girls’ team won both races after Simpson’s top five runners ran as a pack and finished well.
At the Columbia Academy Caleb Coleman Invitational, the girls’ team was led by Lily Overby, who finished 3rd with a time of 21:34:90, followed by Kinsley Welch in 4th place with a time of 21:37.80. Caroline McAlpin was 6th with a time of 21:45:40, and Emma Overstreet was 8th with a time of 22:09.90. Rounding out the team’s top five finishers was Carson Carter in 20th place with a time of 23:39.70.
The team placed first, defeating Columbia Academy by only 8 points. (Full Meet Results)
Competition continued on Saturday, October 16 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton when Simpson Cross Country participated in the Watson High School Meet with more than 375 girls competing in the silver division alone.
Again, Lily Overby led the Cougars to victory, placing 4th with a time of 20:39:25. Layla Warren was close behind in 5th place with a time of 20:44:12. Caroline McAlpin was 9th overall with a time of 20:55:71, followed by Emma Overstreet in 11th place with a time of 21:01:03. Kinsley Welch rounded out the top five in 13th place with a time of 21:06:64. (Full Meet Results)

The Simpson Cross Country Team celebrated with a fun day at the fair following the meet.
The team finishes the regular season on Tuesday, October 19 at Neely Farms for the Fast & Furious 2-Miler before competing at the MAIS state meet on Monday, October 25 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
