Simpson County School District has added two new programs to better serve students and provide them with additional career choices.
Under the direction of Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) Director, Dr. Bo Huffman, a new program, SREB Energy and Power, has been added at Magee High School as a career academy. This program is a pathway to introduce students from both Magee High School and Mendenhall High School to the broad field of energy and the critical need for a skilled energy workforce.
SCTC welcomes new instructors and counselor for the 2015-2016 school year. In addition to the seven programs that are currently available at SCTC, Law Enforcement and Public Safety has been added for the current school term. Serving as first year instructor is Jesse Gonzales, who is a certified law enforcement and school resource officer. He is prior military and last served as School Resource Officer with the Grenada School District.

Serving as career and technical counselor is Heidi Russell. Heidi is a first year counselor and served for the last thirteen years as Business Instructor and Lead Teacher at Magee Hig
Additionally, Simpson County Technical Center continues to surpass the state average in CPAS state program rankings with Automotive Technology rated number seven and Polymer Science number three. Adopting this year’s theme, “CTE: A Pathway to a Brighter Future”, SCTC continues to prepare students with the necessary skills for career success.
