Simpson County School District has added two new programs to better serve students and provide them with additional career choices.

Under the direction of Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) Director, Dr. Bo Huffman, a new program, SREB Energy and Power, has been added at Magee High School as a career academy. This program is a pathway to introduce students from both Magee High School and Mendenhall High School to the broad field of energy and the critical need for a skilled energy workforce.

He also serves as minister of the First Baptist Church in Braxton, which is located near the center.

Dustin In052man joins the faculty as Agriculture & Natural Resources instructor. Dustin is involved with the SREB Literacy Design Initiative and implements the literacy strategies with his students. Serving as career and technical counselor is Heidi Russell. Heidi is a first year counselor and served for the last thirteen years as Business Instructor and Lead Teacher at Magee Hig050[1]h School. Prior to that time, she was employed in industry.

Additionally, Simpson County Technical Center continues to surpass the state average in CPAS state program rankings with Automotive Technology rated number seven and Polymer Science number three. Adopting this year’s theme, “CTE: A Pathway to a Brighter Future”, SCTC continues to prepare students with the necessary skills for career success.
