Simpson Boys, Overby Win Fast and Furious 2 Miler Cross Country Meet

The Simpson Academy Cross Country Team finished its regular season strong on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Junior Lilly Overby set a new course record with a time of 11:11.00, while every other cross country team member ran his or her best two-mile time this season, and the boys’ team brought home 1st place.

Top Ten Finishers: (front row) Lilly Overby and Caroline McAlpin, (back row) Hunter Smith, John Thomas White, Jayden Smith, Brason Fox, Parker Payne, Zeke Scallorn, and Denver Carter.

Overby was joined in the top ten by Senior Caroline McAlpin, who placed 7th with a time of 13:19.60. Madison-Ridgeland Academy took first place in the team rankings of the girls’ varsity race.

Simpson’s varsity boys had three top ten finishers, led by Jayden Smith who ran 10:31.80 and placed third. Denver Carter placed 5th with a time of 10:50.30, and Zeke Scallorn was 10th with a time of 11:07.60. Senior Braden Overby placed 11th with a time of 11:33.70, and Thomas Martin and Landon Boyd placed 16th and 17th respectively, clinching victory for the Cougars.

The junior varsity boys also made a good showing, with Brason Fox, Parker Payne, and Hunter Smith placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Fox ran a time of 11:04.80; Payne, 11:25.10; and Smith, 12:35.80. John Thomas White also made the top ten, placing 6th with a time of 13:03.20.

The meet, which was held at Neely Farms in Magee, was the final regular season meet for the Cougars, who celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday.

The Simpson Cross Country Team will compete in the MSAIS Overall State Cross Country Meet on Monday, October 28 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
