SCTC Features Diesel Service Technician Program
Simpson County Technical Center is featuring its Diesel Service Technician program. In the Diesel Service Technician program, students gain experience in the day-to-day operations of a live diesel repair shop in conjunction with a systems-based classroom component.
Through theory lectures, shop field trips, student-driven research, computer-based learning software and lab training, students spend time investigating each of the following diesel systems: engines, fuel injection, electrical systems, hydraulics, air brake systems, preventive maintenance, power tools, fasteners and equipment. Students learn diesel engine overhaul skills needed to enter the field as an agricultural, industrial and consumer products technician. Tractor trailer trucks and construction equipment maintenance are included in the program.
Students enrolled in the Diesel Service Technician program have the option of joining SkillsUSA, the student organization for career and technical students. Through SkillsUSA membership, students have the opportunity to showcase skills learned at various competitions at the district, state and national levels.
Alan Sanders, instructor, demonstrates to Diesel II students’ the maintenance of diesel engines. In a lab-based assignment, students are pictured rebuilding a diesel engine.
