This weekend, the Southern Jaguars came back to Jackson to face the undefeated Jackson State Tigers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Championship. Besides having the second SWAC Championship in a row on the line, rumors of coaching changes plagued the Tigers all week; these rumors have carried Coach Sanders to Cincinnati, South Florida, and Colorado. This season,  rumors downshifted other teams, such as top 25 Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl and 8-4 Liberty against New Mexico St. two weeks ago. The Tigers overtook the Jags 43-24 at Memorial Stadium. However, hours after Saturday’s game ended, Coach Deion Sanders announced he would leave Jackson State to take the head coaching job for the Colorado Buffaloes football team.

Every year, 86 FBS teams who have won 6 or more games hope to be invited to play in 43 post-season bowl games. After the weekend of conference championships, everyone waits to see where they get to go. For the first time since 2019, all 3 of Mississippi’s FBS teams have received invites to bowl games. Here is the schedule including Jackson State’s FCS Bowl:

  1. TaxAct Texas Bowl: Ole Miss (8-4) vs. Texas Tech (7-5) December 28, ESPN, 8:00PM
  2. ReliaQuest Bowl: #22 MS State (8-4) vs. Illinois (8-4) January 2, ESPN2, 11:00PM
  3. LendingTree Bowl: Southern Miss (6-6) vs. Rice (5-7) December 17, ESPN, 4:45PM
  4. Cricket Celebration Bowl: Jackson State (12-0) vs. North Carolina Central (9-2) December 17, 11:00AM, ABC
  5. Don’t see a team you’re a fan of? I will begin covering more teams as the bowl season goes on. Comment your team and I will post them under the next article. Here’s the link for more bowl games: https://fbschedules.com/college-football-bowl-schedule/
