Congratulations!

Simpson County School District (SCSD) has been selected as a finalist for the Mississippi Community Engagement Council of Promise Award – an award that recognizes the district for implementing strategies and/or practices that result in improved outcomes for its learners.

Awarded by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, SCSD is one of two districts in the state to be recognized for the Mississippi Community Engagement Council of Promise Award. This distinction is a testament to SCSD’s commitment to community engagement and its impact on school improvement efforts. The SCSD Community Engagement Council – formerly the P-16 Council – is led by current president Stacy Chapin, who was recently selected as the 2023-2024 SCSD Parent of the Year.

“I would like to congratulate Mrs. Chapin for her dedication and leadership to the council,” said Misty Hanna, SCSD Director of Federal Programs. “She worked diligently to complete the application for the Council of Promise on behalf of the district and to showcase the important work our district and community are doing together to benefit the students of Simpson County.”

As a finalist, SCSD will undergo an intensive interview process with the MDE Office of School Improvement, during the month of January, to rate the district’s Community Engagement Council on progress. Interviews will be conducted with members of the council and district staff.
