Sadie Moody, senior at Simpson Academy, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amount of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Award program. Simpson Academy nominated Sadie for national honors this fall in recognition of her volunteer service.

Sadie explained, “My volunteer experiences have taught me that health is not only the physical health that we all are aware of, but also mental and emotional health. I began serving others through volunteer organizations after the traumatic loss of a close relative, with the initial goal of helping myself; however the love and experiences I have received in return have changed my motives in so many ways. I spread my efforts among multiple organizations in multiple cities, but generally the same focus – to be there to provide relationships and leadership to children.

I am a member of the Spirit Girls of Forrest General Hospital, a Youth Ambassador to the Mississippi Children’s Museum and have helped teach and lead community cheerleading camps through my role as a varsity and junior varsity cheerleader. I have grown in leadership through service opportunities in the Distinguished Young Woman Organization and through serving as a legislative page for the Governor of the State of Mississippi. I have also grown in emotional maturity through shadowing a mentor in two Suicide Survivor Group counseling workshops. My experiences have shaped my values immeasurably and I feel as though they have also positively impacted others.”

Sadie is the daughter of Kade and Jackie Moody of Magee. Upon graduation, Sadie plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service.
Created in 1995 by Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level.
Thus far, it has recognized more than 120,000 young people who’ve made a difference – and inspired countless others to consider how they might contribute to their communities.
