Ronald “Ron” Edgar Walker, 58 of Taylorsville, MS passed away Friday, September 13, 2024. He was born Friday, December 3, 1965, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 9:30AM until 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church in Welcome Street, Taylorsville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00AM at Fellowship Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi.  will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564.

Dr. Ronald Edgar Walker “Ron”, age 58, went to his heavenly home on September 14, 2024. Ron was born to Bucky Walker and Martha Walker on December 3, 1965, in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1984. Ron attended Jones County Junior College and received an Associate of Arts degree in 1986. He attended Millsaps College and received a Bachelor of Arts in English degree in 1988. He attended Mississippi State University and received a Master of Arts in English degree in 1989. He attended The University of Southern Mississippi and received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration degree in 1999.

              Ron was a passionate educator and scholar who cared about and poured into his students and their success. He began working at Jackson State University as an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Research and was tenured. Ron was also a public servant who gave back to his communities in more ways than one. In 2014, he was appointed by Jackson Mayor, Tony T. Yarber, to serve as a Civil Service Commissioner for the City of Jackson. He also served two terms as the City of Taylorsville’s Mayor. Ron will be remembered for his servant’s heart to his students, family and communities in which he served.

              Ron attended First Baptist Church of Taylorsville for most of his life and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. He held his faith to the highest standard.

Ron is preceded in death by his mother, Martha Walker, stepmother, Sandra Walker, grandparents, Edgar and Hazel Shanks, and Friend and Frances Walker.

Survivors include his father, Friend “Bucky” Walker, Jr., siblings, Leigh Ann Leonard (Chris) of Hattiesburg, and Ellen Shoemaker of Taylorsville; niece, Rachel Shoemaker of Oxford, and nephews, Noah Shoemaker of Hattiesburg and Andrew Leonard of Hattiesburg. He is also survived by his special cousin, Ann Rose Howell; Step sisters Beth Herndon (Joe) and family of Madison, Jennifer Foreman (Terry) and family of Brandon.
