Former Superintendent Nelvis Rankin was honored at the board meeting Tuesday, January 19, 2021 for his years of service and retirement.

The board presented Rankin with a plaque. Rankin is retiring after 45 years of service.

Mayor Dale Berry advised City Hall is back open after having to quarantine! Berry thanked Alderman Patrick Brown for the work his youth and members of Calvery church did to pick up trash in their community.

Christmas decoration are in the process of being removed and stored. Municipal qualification for election are still taking place at City Hall.

Pothole patrol is on and taking advantage of the warmer weather. If you have a pot hole that needs repairing, please call City Hall at 601-849-3344.

The new Magee High School Football State Championship signs are being installed on Highway 49. One sign is located on Hwy 49 South across from Loves.  The other sign will be located on Hwy 49 North behind the Shell Station at the school bus barn.

The board approved to replace the billboard sign located on hwy 49 with a new sign that states “Shop Downtown Magee”. The cost to update the billboards is $850.00.

A discussion was held concerning a gun ordinance in the City of Magee.  If someone hears a gun that is discharged in the city, they are to file a claim at City Hall of Disturbing the Peace.  The person concerned with the issue needs to make the complaint.

Baseball and Softball registration is underway. Everyone must register to play ball. If an individual banked their registration fee from 2020, the fee will be honored this season of play. Forms can be picked up at City Hall and must be returned.

The board approved to purchase 2 mowers for the recreation department.

Hunter Steele and Fowler Perry were approved as candidates for the Magee Volunteer Department.

The board rescinded the resignation of John Hosey as a Police Officer contingent on 90 day attendance at the  Academy and salary modification. The board voted in favor of hiring Angie Fortenberry as a full-time dispatcher for the Magee Police Department.

Superintendent Hugh Dillmore sent a shout out to the Animal Catcher Michael Andrews on apprehending the animals on Windsor Ave. Dillmore thanked all that had donated blankets, food, and money for the animal shelter. Dillmore advised the sanitation crews were busy on street cleanup on Wednesdays.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned until February 2nd board meeting.
