Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson Promotes Mississippi Christmas Trees

JACKSON, Miss. – This holiday season, Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson encourages those celebrating Christmas to make this year a “Genuine Mississippi” Christmas by purchasing a Mississippi grown tree.

“The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce has made it easy to find the perfect, real Christmas tree this year,” said Commissioner Gipson. “Folks can visit our website at MSChristmasTrees.com to find a complete list of Christmas tree farms across the state, as well as information on the variety of trees grown in Mississippi, tips on how to care for a fresh tree and more.”

Mississippi is currently home to 29 Christmas tree farms statewide. Every year, Mississippi’s Christmas tree farms grow thousands of Christmas trees, from the popular Leyland cypress to the Eastern redcedar. Real Christmas trees are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

“Visiting a local Christmas tree farm provides a festive experience where you can start family traditions and create lifelong memories,” continued Commissioner Gipson. “By getting a real, Mississippi grown tree, you’re also supporting Mississippi farmers, as well as the local and state economies. So, find a Christmas tree farm near you by visiting our website and make lasting memories with your loved ones.”

Many Christmas tree farms will open for the holiday season on Thanksgiving Day or throughout the weekend. Some farms offer pre-tagging services for families interested in reserving a tree to pick up at a later date. General Christmas tree details, in addition to contact information and social media links for each farm, can be found at www.mschristmastrees.com.

Tune in to the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce’s weekly Freshly Picked podcast series, featuring multiple Christmas tree-themed episodes, at www.msfreshlypicked.com or any major podcast platform.
