JACKSON, MISS. – Earlier today in response to continuing developments, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) made staffing arrangements to ensure essential maintenance functions and operations continue on Mississippi’s transportation network.
Construction and maintenance crews will remain on duty to perform core job requirements such as construction inspections, roadway repairs and severe weather response.
“The Mississippi Department of Transportation is committed to a reliable transportation network to ensure the delivery of goods and services and the safety of the traveling public,” said Melinda McGrath, P.E., MDOT Executive Director. “Despite the serious nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, essential personnel will continue to serve the state, and all others will be on-call and prepared to work when directed.”
During this time, employees have been instructed to take all precautions as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and the state health department for avoidance of COVID-19. Employees who get sick or come into contact with confirmed cases, know to notify supervisors immediately.
If motorists encounter highway hazards, they can continue to notify MDOT through social media and through public comment forms at GoMDOT.com.
“In these challenging times, and always, safety is our top priority,” McGrath said. “We are going to protect our workforce, and we are going to protect you.”
