JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting involving the Meridian Police Department that occurred on February 1st, 2024. An officer from the Meridian Police Department was escorting a subject to a court hearing when the subject secured a weapon and shot the officer. A second Meridian police officer discharged his firearm striking the subject. The officer and subject received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. This information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office
