Mary Evelyn Cockroft Craft, 82 of Mendenhall, Mississippi was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home at her residence in Mendenhall.
She was born June 14th 1939 in Carthage, MS to William David and Lillian Elizabeth Chunn Cockroft. She grew up in Leake County where she attended Singleton High School where she enjoyed basketball. She graduated salutatorian of her class in 1957. After high school, she moved to Jackson, MS to work for the phone company. She moved to Mendenhall where she married Don L. Craft on June 29, 1962. She ran a daycare from her home in 1970 where she kept and loved many local children. She later worked and retired from the State of Mississippi in 1988. She enjoyed traveling with friends after retirement. She also loved to work in her flower beds. Before becoming a member of First Baptist Church Mendenhall, she was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she led Sunday school, Church Training, WMU, GAs, Mission Friends, and Vacation Bible School. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, Granny, and Evelyn.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January, 12, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall in 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, MS. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022at 10:00 A.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Bro. Rodney Anderson will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don L. Craft, parents William and Lillian Chunn Cockroft, brothers, James and Lamar (Betty Ruth) Cockroft, grandson, Joseph Compere, nephews, Jimmy and Michael Cockroft.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose Compere, son, David Craft (Tosha), grandchildren, Patrick Compere, Will Craft (Sarah-Bailey), Hayden Craft, and Addie Compere, and great-granddaughter, Vera Grace Craft, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Compere, Will Craft, Hayden Craft, Jonathan Craft, Christopher Craft, and Aubrey Russel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Addie Compere and Vera Grace Craft.
