Martha Deanna “Ms. Martha” Smith, 84 of Bay Springs, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Jasper General Nursing Home in Bay Springs, MS. She was born Thursday, March 9, 1939, in Paulding, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Paulding, MS. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 11:00AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Paulding, MS. Burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Church Cemetery in Paulding, MS. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. 601-764-2181
Ms. Martha, as she was known to almost everyone in Jasper, Smith, and Jones counties, worked for over fifty years as the office manager at Alexander’s in Bay Springs. She loved her three children dearly, but the true love, joy, and light of her life were her six grandchildren—who could do no wrong.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Joseph McDevitt; mother, Laura Bernice Thigpen McDevitt; and brother, Al McDevitt.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, William Earl Smith; son, Mikell Smith (Tracie); daughters, Melissa Probst (Walter) and Michelle Crace (Nathan); grandchildren, Emily Reeves (Logan), Cameron Crace, Cole Crace, Anna Probst, John Probst and Mason Smith; brothers, John Paul McDevitt (Joyce), Ricky McDevitt (Judy).
Pallbearers will be William Alexander, M.L. King, Walter Probst, John Probst, Nathan Crace, Cameron Crace, and Cole Crace.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mason Smith.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to St. Michael Catholic Church Cemetery fund, Paulding, MS.
