I love how one conversation in Magee leads to another. Thanks to my friend Jack Robinson, I reconnected with a “not-so-new” friend I hadn’t seen in years—Pastor Tim Pace. If you ask me, Pastor Tim can just about call Magee home. His wife, Sharon Smith Pace, was born and raised right here in Simpson County… so you know I’m claiming the spouse!…and Pastor Tim in Smith County.

We met at Bethel Assembly of God—tucked just behind Dairy Queen—where Pastor Tim quickly corrected me when I said “his” church. “It’s the people’s church,” he said with a smile. That tells you about all you need to know.

“All are welcome,” Pastor Tim told me. “We’re very laid back and we welcome anyone, no matter their station in life. We want the unreachable—just come and see. We preach the Bible.”

That simple invitation is Bethel’s heartbeat. No dress code, no checklist, just the doors open and the Word preached. I
