Mississippi Senate
Assists at State Capitol
Malakai Sullivan, (left), and Amiya Sullivan, (right), of Birmingham, AL served as pages for the Mississippi Senate. Pages generally run errands for officials and Senate staff. Malakai and Amiya are pictured with their grandmother, Anne Sullivan, of Mendenhall, and Lieutenant Governor C. Delbert Hosemann Jr., who sponsored their visit. Malakai and Amiya are the children of Wes and Danielle Sullivan and attend Westminster School at Oak Mountain. When asked about the week, Malakai said, “Serving for the Senate this year was such a fun experience. I got to see how the government operates and meet the people who create and pass laws. Not only that, but I also met amazing new people I would not have met otherwise. I would encourage all eligible kids to take advantage of this opportunity.”
When asked about the week, Amiya said, “I have loved the privilege of paging for the Mississippi Senate, learning how the government operates and how the unique personalities and abilities of its leaders keep the state running smoothly. I had the opportunity to tour the Civil Rights Museum, the Supreme Court, and the Old Capitol Building, which deepened my understanding of our state’s history. Having served as a page twice, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, met so many wonderful people, and hope to serve again in the future.”
