The first day of the first Farmer’s Market in Magee was a success. The vendors were small in number and ran out of goods to sale…but, the market is a start to what many hope will become a booming business in Magee!
One thing I can say, come early if you want the good stuff! When I arrived around 9:15 the okra was gone and while I shopped I watched the peas sell out! The crowd was good. The city plans to continue to expand the Market. What we need is vendors! We’ve got shoppers…now we need stuff to buy!
Anyone wishing to sell at the market needs to turn in an application on Tuesday before the Market on Saturday. The fee is $10. All produce must be home grown. Now, home grown does not mean only in Magee! Produce can come from all over the state as long as proper channels are followed. The Market is not a resale for people who buy local produce. The Market is for the people who grow the produce. Also, the Market is not all about vegetables and honey. Homemade items may be sold. I think a lemonade stand would do great! Let’s add a little music, and we’ll have fun Saturday mornings in Magee next to the Community House.
The Market is scheduled to be open until August each Saturday from 9-1. Alex Boykin is the manager.
Brother Buddy and Jackie Keys sold out of everything they brought! Their vegetables and tomatoes looked great! Jimmy and Judy Lott had fresh honey for sale. They even gave everyone a free taste of their honey.
I hope you will encourage the folks with gardens to come and sell. The people of Magee are ready to support the vendors.
Applications to be a vendor are available at City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, Tractor Supply, and Magee Co-Op.
