MAGEE TROJANS BASEBALL IS OFF TO EXCITING START

DSC_3067 DSC_3078IMG_1415.JPGThe 2017 edition of Trojan Baseball is young with as many as 6 players in 9th and 10th grade on the field at times during the season. One thing is certain, you will not be disappointed when you come out to the park as these Trojans play with heart, grit and determination.   Despite the daunting schedule, the teams’ work ethic and perseverance has paid off with the Trojans winning 5 of their last 6 games bringing their overall record to 8-6 and 2-1 in District play.

The Trojans started this impressive stretch with a thrilling 7-6 win over last year’s 3A runner-up and district foe St. Andrews on March 11th. Dalton Cockrell was named player of game with his impressive outing in pitching 6 innings and giving up only 6 hits.     The Trojan crowd erupted when Caleb Brown hit a 2-run shot to right field to give the Trojans the lead.  As the fans sat on the edge of their seats, Tucker Sobczak, the lone senior on the team, came in and closed the door on the Saints and earned the save.

The Trojans would continue the momentum on the next day when Freshman, Landon Hayes, pitched a gem against 5A power Germantown giving up only 3 hits in 6 innings.  The Trojans took the lead in the top of the 7th with two runs and in consecutive days, Sobczak shut the door to earn the save.  Timon Kennedy, Caleb Brown and Dalton Cockrell each had timely hits to help lead the Trojans to the win.     The Trojans defense also turned in an error free game.

The only loss in this stretch was to 5A opponent Brookhaven High School 9-8 in a game which the Trojans outhit the Panthers 13-10, played error free baseball, but gave up two home runs that decided the game.   Sobczak, Cockrell and Collier each had two hits for the Trojans.
