Magee baseball, who is ranked number one in class 3-A, opened up the weekend with the Simpson County Classic playing Mendenhall and Simpson Academy. Due to weather, all three teams have been modifying practices and have not had a lot of team practices or scrimmages. Getting to play was exciting for all the players and coaches.
Magee faced Mendenhall in fame one and won the game 9-4. Josh Sanders led the hitting category for Magee with three. Josh also had three stolen bases. Chandler Pittman got the first RBI of the game hitting a triple in the first to score Sanders and scored himself after a throwing error by the Tigers taking a 2-0 lead in the first. Magee added two more runs in the second inning when Mason Booth hit a double followed by an INF single by Kaden Harper. Adam May had the Sacrifice fly to score Matthew Russell, who was a courtesy runner for Booth. Magee blew it open when Brennon McNair hit a Grand Slam HR in the fourth inning to put Magee up 8-0. After four scoreless innings pitched by Adam May, Kaden Harper came in to pitch the last three. Mendenhall scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth and seventh innings. Pittman scored in the sixth for Magee’s ninth run.
In Game two, Magee faced Simpson Academy. Magee took the win by a score of 3-2. Magee scored two runs in the third inning when Kaden Harper reached first base with a walk followed by a walk by Adam May. Caden Bridges hit a single and Chandler Pittman followed with a Sacrifice Fly to score one followed by a walk to Brennon McNair forcing Bridges in for the second run. Simpson scored their first run in the top of the fifth inning but Magee answered back with a run in the bottom half of fifth inning scored by Bridges. Simpson scored another run in the sixth but after Brennon McNair pitched five strong innings, Chandler Pittman came in to close it out with a two inning save.
“There were a lot of positive things we as a coaching staff saw, but we also saw some negative things that must be fixed. Overall, I think we competed with high energy level and had a pretty good approach both offensively and defensively seeming that we haven’t had a lot of team practice time.” stated Coach Eubanks
Magee will host Richland Rangers at 5&7 on Tuesday, weather permitting. If field conditions are too wet, the game will most likely be played Thursday. All stats can be found on MaxPreps.com.
