On Friday, April 28th, I heard the sirens blaring by my house!  The blue lights were blazing…and I knew something serious was taking place.

The Magee Police Department responded to 888 1st Street NW Apartments  in regard to a medical emergency.

Police Chief Issues Clarification Following Mayor’s Statement

June 18, 2025

Magee Officers Landon Ates, Vance Hamilton, Mike Davis, Tony Puckett and Simpson County Deputy EJ McCabe arrived at the apartment and observed an unresponsive male receiving CPR by a family friend. Officers immediately assisted in CPR on the unconscious male.

AMR notified Magee Police that the nearest ambulance was coming from Jackson and at least 45 minutes away.

Officers decided to load the un-responsive male into a vehicle to get him to Magee General ER as quickly as possible.  Officers obtained a bed sheet from the 2nd story apartment and loaded the male into a nearby waiting vehicle.  Lt. Joey Womack drove the vehicle while Landon Ates and Tony Puckett continued CPR.

The Magee PD Dispatchers notified the Magee Hospital that officers were driving the un-responsive male by vehicle to the ER and that CPR was in progress.  The ER Staff took over and continued CPR on the man.

The male was brought “back to life” and was flown by helicopter to Jackson.

The fast action of the family friend,  Magee PD, Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, and Magee General Hospital ER saved the life of this individual.

I observed the police cars leading and backing up the civilian vehicle…it was wild…but the team work saved a life!  Thank you.

CPR saves!
