Magee High School personnel found “writing on the wall” in one of the restrooms in the high school building threating a shooting at the school. The school was never on “lock down,” but in a Heightened Security mode.

“Proper procedure was followed,” according to Principal Pete Howell. “The police were contacted and present at the school and school grounds all day Friday (October 9th),” stated Howell.

Following shooting in other parts of the country, every school and town has a security plan. Our school personnel and police department work hand in hand to protect our students.

One of the problems coming out of these threats is schools being closed…and often that is what the person presenting the threat wants…no school.

An ongoing investigation is in progress to find out who made the threat…and proper action will be taken at that time.

“We continue to be pro active in all areas of the school,” stated Howell…”and especially where security and safety issues are concerned.”

The rumors were flying Friday…from lock down to armed guards…there was criticism from parents for not being notified concerning the security issue.

Howell explained the situation could be handled more efficiently if the police and school administration are allowed to do their job and protect our students.

I’m Just Saying….

What do you think? Should parents have been notified or was the correct decision made to handle the issue “in house?” Comment on this article or send your opinion to Sue@mageenews.com

I think that parents should have been notified and have the right to make the decision if they want to leave their child in a potentially dangerous situation. Great job to the MPD for securing the scene. But nobody should take the parents choice away from them!
