Grace Baptist Church in Mendenhall is coming together to help Benny Blair, a familiar face to many in the Magee community.

The church will sponsor a benefit for Benny on Saturday, September 12, featuring a rummage sale and chicken plate fundraiser. Chicken plates will be available for $10 each, with proceeds going to help Benny and his family.

Grace Baptist Church is located in Mendenhall next to the E-911 Building.

Benny is well known in Magee, where he formerly worked for the City of Magee as the city’s dog catcher. Over the years, many people came to know Benny through his work around town and his care for the animals he encountered.

During the past year or so, Benny was diagnosed with cancer, and now friends, family and members of the community are joining together to lend a helping hand.

Sometimes a chicken plate, a rummage sale purchase or a small donation may not seem like much—but when a community puts all of those acts of kindness together, they can make a real difference for a family going through a difficult time.

Come out Saturday, enjoy a chicken plate, browse the rummage sale and support a great cause.

Those who are unable to attend but would still like to help may make a donation by contacting Benny’s wife, Kathy Blair, at 601-382-8467. Kathy is also a familiar face in the community and works in the deli at Magee Piggly Wiggly.
