Magee High School Students Lead 2015 Clean Up Campaign
On Saturday, April 18th, Magee High School’s Foreign Language Club got off to an early start for Magee’s 2015 Clean-Up Campaign with community service project MAGEE SERVES.
MHS Foreign Language club, which is comprised of approximately 60 students, grades 9-12, is a group committed to gaining more cultural knowledge of the world around them, as well as giving back to its community. The group is sponsored by Magee High Spanish teacher, Jarred Hayes, who is graduate of Southern Miss. Hayes adds that MAGEE SERVES was inspired by Southern Miss’s Big Event, which is an annual, student-led community service project that takes place on the campus of Southern Miss, spilling over into the Hattiesburg community. Hayes states, “Although there is no college campus here in Simpson County, there are still great things that our students are doing across the district!”

When asked why she chose to participate, Magee High Senior Rictoria Funches added, “It’s a great opportunity to give back! There are so many overlooked opportunities to serve – and many of them are in our own back yard! I enjoy working with others to help us all advance together.” Hayes also commented that MAGEE SERVES will become an annual event and that he hopes that the spirit of service spills throughout the entire Magee community. MHS Foreign Language Club was accompanied by Beta Club members & its sponsor, math teacher Kelly Nelson, as well as other students who attend Magee High School.
