The Magee Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, for a regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting opened with a prayer by Alderman Patrick Brown. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
The agenda was approved.
The minutes were approved.
The board denied an event application for use of the Community House per the city’s policy that the Community House only be used for city events.
The claims docket was approved.
Jim Ball appeared before the board to request again that the board approve a 60-day moratorium on RV parks so the zoning board can develop conditional use guidelines.
He said, “We do not have a ‘side’ in the matter.”
He mentioned several conditional standards he considers “reasonable to require,” including registration of all RVs, a gated and secure entrance, no mailboxes in RV parks, and on-site security and management.
He suggested a July 15 deadline for the zoning board to submit these guidelines to the aldermen.
Ball also asked that if the board does not approve the 60-day moratorium, they decide whether RV parks will be allowed in the city of Magee.
Mayor Dale Berry said there has been an RV park in the city since 2017.
“The city limits run right through that park,” said Alderman Mark Grubbs.
Brown said, “It’s grandfathered in.”
Bruce Lewis again appeared before the board to discuss the issue and said, “It needs to go to court.”
Chad Hand, who is working to develop the RV park, said, “I don’t understand this whatsoever…I keep sinking money into a sinking ship.”
He told the board he has already invested nearly $100,000 in the project.
Alderman Brown made a motion to deny conditional use for the property in question, which the board approved with a 4 to 1 vote. Alderman Sammie Tebo dissented.
Fire Chief David Craft appeared before the board and requested permission for himself and one other to attend fire inspection class June 16-26, which the board approved.
He also asked that the department’s old radios and 3″ supply line be declared surplus property because they are of no value to the city. The board approved.
Zoning Administrator Penny Aguirre told the board of the community’s help in providing for seven families affected by a power outage at a local apartment complex and thanked those involved.
She requested permission to publish a rezoning hearing scheduled for July 8, which was approved.
She provided the board with information concerning a grant the city has received, which is a matching grant. Aguirre asked the board to review the information before deciding whether to accept the grant before the July 1 deadline.
Airport Administrator Mike Berry told the board they have sold 300 gallons of fuel since Saturday.
In other business, Alderman Sue Honea announced that a reception will be held honoring the mayor and Alderman Brown on June 16 at First Baptist Church.
The board approved a special event application for a wedding to be held at McNair Springs.
The board entered executive session.
