The Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, December 21, 2021 for their regular scheduled meeting.
The first order of business was recognizing Attorney Bruce Smith with a plaque for years of service honoring his retirement from the City.
Mayor Berry advised the Magee Community Center is shut down until further notice. The building is not rented at this time due to issues with the floors. The floors have buckled. Insurance and cost to repair must be received before decisions on how to move forward can be addressed.
The Civic Center rental price is increasing to $300 which will include a clean up fee.
The City will see an increase in commercial garbage rates. The price will be announced the first of the year. Residential customers will not see a price increase.
Melinda Green was present for the board meeting. Melinda was responsible for writing the CDBG Grant the city received for sewage repairs. Tim Bray City Superintendent gave an update on sewage repairs and praised Ms. Green for her diligence and dedication to receive the grant.
Rev. Darnell Moffett met before the board thanking them for all the work and support the Goodwater community has received in the past months with projects and cleanup efforts. Mr. Moffett advised the board the residents were patiently “bumping around” the pot holes created by Cspire during the laying of new gas lines. Moffett wanted to know when Cspire would repair roads damaged. A water line was clipped by CSpire during the laying of lines which is allowing water unto an open lot. Mayor Berry advised a work crew would look at the water line Wednesday morning.
Fire Marshall Charle Valadie advised the fire department has been busy responding to several fire calls in the last weeks. The fire department has inspected the pop up fireworks tents inside of the city and all passed inspections.
Keiffer with Barge Engineering updated the board that Christmas has come early with the airport. The airport will receive $110,000 over 5 years grant for infrastructure projects. In addition, the airport has received a Gold letter from the FFA for the 1/2 million Apron and Taxi lane project between the hangers. The city is set to receive a 1.3 Million over 5 years grant for improvements. The $22,000 Covid money should be hitting the books in the coming weeks.
The board approved Chief of Police Chris Jones to attend a new chief orientation class.
All City offices will be closed Friday, December 24, Monday December 27, 2021 and Friday, December 31, 2021.
