Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
The meeting began with the Mayor’s Report. Mayor Dale Berry advised the Wreath’s Across America have arrived and are available for the city cemetery and churches for the veterans graves. Total Transportation donated the wreaths. 450 wreathes were given to the City of Magee. Magee will take 250 to lay on the graves of veterans in Magee Cemetery. The other wreaths will be available on a first come first serve basics. More Info
Mayor Berry announced April 10, 2020 as a work day for the City Cemetery. more info
Mayor Berry advised he had spoken with SCDF and advised railway frontage and acreage was available for a potential wood chip plant considering to locate and build in Simpson County. Mayor Berry advised of talk between the city and Mt. Zion school were taking place to possibly rent the baseball filed and old elementary gym for their school sporting events.
Mayor Berry advised garbage routes will run Monday December 23, 2019 as normal routine. Tuesday and Wednesday December 24 & 25th would be no collection. Regular scheduled routes will return Thursday and Friday. (There will be no collection of garbage for December 24 or 25th).
Minutes and claims docket was approved by the board.
Dr. Jonathan Bines with 5 County Child Development met to update city on their new location at the old elementary school. 5 County Child Development has 200 students and are running 5 busses. May begins a new budget year for 5 County Development. Present projects must be completed before repair can begin on the old buildings on the campus. Plans are to repave the parking lot and secure a new fence.
Any citizen that sees a street light out are encouraged to get the 10 digit pole number, street name, and report the outage to the dispatch at the police department. City surplus property will be located at the Magee Sports Complex and auctioned off February 1, 2020.
In building inspection matters, a demolition project will take place at 571 Simpson Hwy 149, Magee, MS. Property is condemn, a hazard, and ruled unsafe.
Airport project update: renovations are running on schedule and no issues at this time.
Properties located at 172 Simpson Hwy 149 and property located at 164 Simpson Hwy 149 were rezoned from R-1 to C-3. More Info
David Dunn advised ABC Enforcement made a trip to Magee. Dunn showed ABC areas of interest that might be considering placement of a liquor store. ABC advised they would not be back until applications from permit offices are issued.
Meeting was recessed to go into executive session to discuss school board issue and property located at Washing Park. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
