According to Mayor Dale Berry, the city is working with Entergy and Southern Pine to be sure all streets lights in the city are working.

Mayor Berry reported at the December 17, 2019 Board of Aldermen meeting, that Entergy has requested that Citizens contact the Magee Police Department (601-849-2366—NOT 911) when a light is out.

The following information MUST be given to the dispatcher at the PD:  number listed on the light pole and address.

Magee Fire Department Investigating Explosions

June 9, 2026

Patrice and I met with David Posey and Jarvis Gaddis of Entergy for further information.

In my case, there is no number on the light pole in front of my house.  David told me to give my address to the dispatcher.

Jarvis explained that if at night ones sees a light out, inform the dispatcher of where (near a business or house) the pole is located.

The Magee Police Department has agreed with Entergy to tie a yellow or bright colored band around the non working light poles.  Night duty police can easily spot the lights not working giving Entergy and even better way to identify the outage.

The Magee Police Department will keep a running list of nonworking lights.  Entergy will attempt to clear the list at least monthly.

Presently, there are at least 20 highway lights from  bridge to bridge on highway 49 not working. These lights are the responsibility of Southern Pine.  Southern Pine is waiting for the arrival of ordered LED lights before replacing the non working lights.

Help from the community is needed.  Be “light” aware and report your findings.

Sue note:  I’m just saying, I like light.  I am horrified that 20 lights on 49 are not working and we are waiting for LED lights!!!  Get ‘em!!!  Several people have shared with me that they turned in non working street lights to City Hall.  I am aware that the ladies at City Hall have reported the light outages and often no repairs were done. (Which isn’t their fault!)  Hopefully, this change in command will take care of the situation.  Let me know if you report a light out and it never gets repaired!  I am pleased to have local contact at Entergy.  David and Jarvis are nice guys and want to see “all things working” in Magee.
