Legacy Church, formerly Eastside Baptist Church, burned Sunday morning, December 12, 2021.  The fire call came in around 4:30 AM.

The sanctuary of the church was no longer in use.  Church events were held in the fellowship hall.  Eastside Baptist Church was built in the 1950s.  The church provide a spiritual hub for the community for years.  Following the closing of the church a few years ago, Overflow Church sponsored a satellite  church know as Legacy in the Eastside Church building.

A special thank you to the Magee Fire Department and Magee Police Department for their quick response.  Entergy, as well as the fire and police department, are still on scene.

Has a cause of the fire been determined? My Father pastored ESBC in the mid-70’s. Coincidentally, I drove through Magee, en route to Jackson, the day after the fire. I stopped by to observe the still-smoldering ruins.

I was baptized in that church early 70’s by brother Hester. I hate to see this.
