On March 24, 2025, Kendarious Marquise Dampeer entered a plea of guilty to 2d Degree Murder in the death of Tazah Amethyst Hosey. Dampeer was sentenced to a term of 40 years, with 30 years to be served incarcerated day-for-day, by Circuit Judge Matt Sullivan.
Ms. Hosey was found deceased on December 24, 2023, having been shot to death in a vehicle on Paul Kennedy Road outside of Magee. An investigation of the crime by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department developed Dampeer as a suspect after being seen leaving a local gas station with the victim.
I want to thank Sheriff Paul Mullins and his department for their outstanding investigation, which led to the swift apprehension of the defendant and the diligent collection of evidence that helped secure the conviction.
Violent crime will not be tolerated in the 13th Judicial District and those who choose violence will be met with the full force of the law and harsh punishment.

The case was handled by Assistant District Attorney Chris Purdum.
