Mississippi College athletic director  Mike Jones, along with head coach Darryl Longabaugh, have announced the promotion of Adam Johnson to Associate Head Coach.

“I would like first to thank Dr. Royce, Coach Jones, Coach Longabaugh for this acknowledgement and all of the players and staff I have coached over the years who have helped me get this far,” Johnson said. “I like to think that this is the recognition of both the success we have had here at MC and of my aspiration for constant improvement; something we try to instill into all of our players here.”

Since his arrival in 2011, Johnson has helped guide the Lady Choctaws to a record of 73-33-12, with a mark of 42-22-6 in conference play as the assistant coach. Johnson has seen the Lady Choctaws reach the postseason in four of his six seasons at MC, including a runner-up finish in the GSC Postseason Tournament in 2016.

“Adam has been a huge asset to our program for the past five years, and we are excited about him continuing on our staff as the Associate Head Coach,” Jones said. “Not only is he a skilled on-field teacher, but he also excels in the realm of recruiting.”

Having previously played semiprofessional soccer in England with Thackley FC and in Australia with Albion Park, Johnson finished his playing career in 2011 as a state champion with Hinds Community College.  Johnson accumulated many individual and team honors including 2 Illawarra Premier League and Grand Final Championships in 2007 and 2008 with Albion Park, and inclusion in the 2011 All Region team while at Hinds CC.

Johnson began his coaching career in 2007 with the Albion Park youth team before his move to the US.  He has since been Assistant Coach at St Andrews High School in 2009-10, and Head Coach at the MAIS Championship Runners up Jackson Academy in 2011-12.  Coach Johnson has served at Jackson Futbol Club as Club Coach to u11/12 boys, and U15 girls since 2009.  In a coaching career spanning three continents, he has the UEFA B coaching liscence from England, the Football Federation of Australia (FFA) Youth Licence, and currently the USSF National D licence in the US.

“Adam has done a great job with this program, he is well-deserving of this and the promotion will only help this program further,” Longabaugh said. “He helped make the transition from DIII to DII a smooth one with his tireless work. We are all excited to see this for him.”
