July 23, 1955 – July 10, 2022)

Johnny Dewayne “Road Runner” Kennedy, Sr., 66 of Puckett, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Saturday, July 23, 1955, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall at 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi and on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Union Baptist Church on 1533 Hwy 13 N, Mayton, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Mayton, Mississippi. Reverend Chad Miley and Reverend Allen Purvis will officiate. Special music will be provided by his daughter Ms. Jennifer Purvis and Rev. Chad Miley.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Mr. Johnny was a member of Union Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.  All that knew him, knew he would help you anyway he could.  He always made you feel welcome.  He had a sense of humor.  He loved his family that surpassed many others.  He spent forty-one years as a truck driver and was referred to the truck community as “Road Runner”.  He carried that title well.  He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Kennedy; mother, Ollie Craft Kennedy; brother, Billy Kennedy; and sisters, Velma Jean Kennedy Johnson and Carolyn Kennedy Morgan.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty –seven years, Jean Kay Brown Kennedy of Puckett, Mississippi; two sons, Dewayne Kennedy (Amanda) of Puckett, Mississippi and Daniel Kennedy (Janna Tullos) of Puckett, Mississippi; two daughters, Jennifer Kennedy Purvis of Raleigh, Mississippi and Marcy Kennedy Adcox (Jacob) of Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Jason Purvis of Raleigh, Mississippi, Aaron Purvis (Katelin) of Raleigh, Mississippi, Bethany Purvis of Raleigh, Mississippi, Zackery Kennedy (Bailey Cockrell) of Puckett, Mississippi, Cameron Kennedy of Puckett, Mississippi, Hannah Kennedy of Puckett, Mississippi, Trent Massey of Tennessee, Chase Massey of Tennessee, Aubreigh Massey of Tennessee, Aryanna Robinson of Mize, Mississippi, Kaleigh Kennedy of Pearl, Mississippi, and Myah Kennedy of Pearl, Mississippi;  one brother, Woody Kennedy (Ann) of Puckett, Mississippi; three sisters, Marilyn Kennedy Anderson (Charles) of Braxton, Mississippi, Dianne Kennedy Anderson (Harry) of Johns, Mississippi, and Connie Kennedy Barron of Pearl, Mississippi; and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Zackery Kennedy, Jason Purvis, Aaron Purvis, Dalton Brown, Tom Jones, Jacob Adcox, Daniel Frith, Adrian Luke, Damien Dudley, Trent Massey, Chase Massey, and Cameron Kennedy.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Judy Tew for the casket spray.  In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to be made to the family of Johnny Kennedy to help with any funeral expenses.  Donations can be mailed to the following:  Marilyn Anderson, 393 Ainsworth Road, Braxton, MS 39044.
