John Thomas Abernathy, 85, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 at his home in Magee, Mississippi. He was born Friday, January 31, 1936.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Plain Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Richland on Tuesday, November 30,2021. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Plain Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. The Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Pinola Cemetery. Bro. Christian Pruitt, Bro. Steven Webb, and Bro. Roger Lee will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Abernathy; parents, Thomas and Rosie Abernathy; sister, Lennie (Feddie) Bridges.

Survivors include his second wife, Emma Abernathy; daughters, Debra Alsobrooks and Lisa Waller (Charles); grandchildren, John Austin Waller (Jessica), Victoria Ferrell (Colby), and Karley Waller; great-grandchildren, Dallas Ferrell, JP Waller, Jackson Waller, Abigail Ferrell, and Stella Ferrell; sister, Annlea Walker; brother, Jimmy Abernathy; sister, Irene Rogers; brother, Pat Abernathy; and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.

Pallbearers will be Bo Cook, Calvin Abernathy, Wendall Abernathy, Tony Gray, Phil Barnard, and Stephen Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Fortenberry, James Bryant, and great-grandsons.
