Joe Allen “Catbooger” Blackwell, 68 of Taylorsville, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving daughter. He was born Thursday, July 22, 1954, in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church on SCR 84, Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Bro. Eddie Brady will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mr. Bruce Gable. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564
Mr. Joe Allen was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi. He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was an avid deer and bear hunter. He enjoyed fishing, collecting arrowheads, reading books, working in his garden, and most of all spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lumus Allen Blackwell; mother, Martha Pauline Barber Blackwell; and brother, Thomas Hugh Blackwell.
Survivors include his one daughter, Cristy Blackwell of Taylorsville, MS; one son, Leland Blackwell of Taylorsville, MS; two grandchildren, Rebecca Powell (J.T. Weathersby) of Johns, MS and Winferd Powell of Raleigh, MS; great-grandchild, James Lee Weathersby of Johns, MS; one brother, Albert L. Blackwell (Sarah) of Taylorsville, MS; one sister, Peggy Blackwell Desormeaux of Franklin, LA; special niece, Nicole Blackwell Castle (Brad) of Japan; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be J.T. Weathersby, Chad Bunyard, Kenneth Winferd Powell, Donald Boykin, Will Moss, and Nicky Blakeney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Blakeney, Jimmy Kilgore, and Stanley Blackwell.
