ColonialChapelJames Grover Purvis, 94, of Collins passed away Tuesday, March 3 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born June 24, 1920 to James Edward and Ethel Purvis in Smith County. The Family later relocated to Magee. He dutifully served his country in WWII, after discharge from the Army; he moved to Jackson, MS and was a long-time resident there. Mr. Purvis was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Collins, MS.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, a grandson James David, a brother, Emmett, and his parents.
He is survived by son, Jim Purvis (Tanya) of Picayune, MS, daughter Jan Smith-Lyon (Tim) of Utica ,MS and daughter June Hutcherson (Lyn) of Hazelhurst, MS, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, sister Ella Davis of Senatobia and brother Lester Purvis of Magee.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 6 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.
