In Address to the House, Guest Calls for Action on High Gas Prices

Washington, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) called for the Biden Administration to expand American energy independence in a speech given on the floor of the House of Representatives.
“America must increase production so that we are not only energy independent, but so that we can once again become a net exporter of oil and natural gas,” Guest said.
The Congressman’s speech comes as gas prices reach historic levels. According to the AAA, American national average gas prices reached $4.252 on Wednesday, up from $2.796 this time last year.
Congressman Guest also encouraged the production and consumption of American oil, sentiment he expressed yesterday in a tweet which read, “Energy security is national security. Let’s drill American, refine American, and buy American oil.”
Congressman Guest also joined a letter to President Biden outlining the importance of increasing domestic oil production and providing actionable items the administration can take that would help decrease American reliance on overseas production.
In the letter, the Congressman calls for five actions the Biden Administration should take to increase energy independence.
- Abandon the Legislative Assault on U.S. Energy Production
- Provide Clarity on Oil and Natural Gas Leasing
- Permit Energy Infrastructure Expansion
- End Unnecessary and Bureaucratic Regulation
- Approve and Expedite Construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline
Congressman Guest reiterated these action items in his speech and closed his remarks with “President Biden must commit to these actions immediately to ease the burden on Americans at the pump.”

With President Biden’s announcement to ban Russian oil imports, it’s time to look in our own backyard for America’s oil needs.
It’s time to make America energy independent again.
We can also increase production and remain a net exporter of oil.
But that means that the Biden Administration must commit to an America-first strategy in oil production.
We must drill American, refine American, and buy American oil.
That’s why I was happy to join my good friend from Texas, Congressman Jodey Arrington, and 19 of our colleagues in a letter to President Biden outlining 5 steps America must take to increase domestic oil production.
