The Scriptural passage for today is found in Proverbs 21:23: “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.” Well, this verse is self-explanatory and hits us directly. The tongue, as we know, is an unruly member, but one which must be curbed and constantly kept in check. Words have extraordinary power to hurt or heal. If we have the love of God within us, we’re less likely to lash out and use our tongue as a weapon. Instead, let’s be found encouraging and supporting one another, putting them ahead of ourselves. Study the life of Jesus. He was slow to speak and carefully chose His words. We should strive to be more like Him in our daily walk.

Today, let’s be generous in showing love, joy, and kindness to others and carefully choose our words. Build up and never tear down. Keep in mind that once spoken, words cannot be retrieved or recalled.
