Garbage is a Mess!

Anyway you cut it, garbage is a mess…and a real mess in the City of Magee…not because the streets have litter (that is always a problem)…but because we do not have enough man power to manage our garbage trucks without the use of the “Head Coach.” Now, the “Head Coach” according to Mayor and former coach Dale Berry is Nelvis Rankin. Nelvis knows anything and everything about the running of our city. Due to the loss of inmate labor, everyone is pitching-in to pick up garbage! Nelvis is ridding the garbage truck. Sure, yea for Nelvis, but we as the city need Nelvis in a bunch of other places. (Read the recap of the aldermen meeting on MageeNews). As Dale says, he is the head coach and we need him running the city…not just one area.

Different proposals were discussed Tuesday night. There is no easy answer…but what the city plans is to hire 4 part-time 20 hour a week no benefit employees until the need for additional full time employees can be worked in the budget.

One of the many things Nelvis discussed (and let me say we almost fell out when Nelvis went to the podium to speak—he never says anything at the meetings—he hates speaking in public—but his heart was full) was the importance of how garbage is sorted for pick-up. I have reported several times about the need for our citizens to follow the guidelines of the city for garbage pick-up. The limb and leaves truck runs Monday-Thursday. To “get on this truck” you need to put your items in at least 3 piles. Leaves CANNOT be in a plastic bag!…place them by the side of the road…limbs (not big trees that have been cut down) need to be in another pile—plastic and other item in another pile. Please do not mix these items. Garbage pick up is a huge expense for the city which means it is for you, the citizen. Take time to make things work for our city.

Happy 14th Birthday to Larkin!!!

Several city officials ran on the platform of a cleaner city last election. Everyone wants a cleaner city. With the garbage situation, all available man power is going on the trucks——not on the mowers. Be patient as the aldermen work out the problems. Everyone is trying to achieve beautification for Magee…we must work together as we wind down this road.

I’ll be quite for a few minutes about garbage…but I do not promise I will not get back on the subject.

I am still so mad about how the inmate transfer was handled I could scream…that is for another day. Someone needs to be held accountable for not protecting our interest.

Ok, I have carried on enough. Enjoy your beautiful day wherever you are!
