Mississippi FFA State Treasurer, Brice Fortenberry, paid a visit to the Agriculture and Natural Resources classes at the Simpson County Technical Center. Brice provided information to the students concerning the mission of FFA, which is to provide leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

With interesting hands-on activities, Brice showed the students the importance of teamwork in FFA. Skills such as working together, communication, and strategizing helped each team accomplish goals during the activities. Students, also, learned how crucial leadership and communication are to a successful FFA chapter.

Additionally, Brice explained how teachers see potential in students that students may not see in themselves. As he related to his own experiences, “All I wanted to do was show pigs, but my teacher told me that I should be a public speaker. Just by listening to me and the way I talked, she was able to see the potential I had for public speaking.”

FFA instructors and sponsors can help students grow personally and find talents that students may not know exist. This organization provides many opportunities to practice skills, as well as find career success. Students at our center learned a lot from Brice and had a great time doing so.
