East Mississippi sweeps Co-Lin in Scooba

 March 23, 2015

SCOOBA – The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves were swept in a divisional doubleheader at East Mississippi on Friday. The Lions took game one 8-2 and held off Co-Lin in the finale 8-6. The game had been previously scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up due to weather concerns.

East Mississippi 8, Co-Lin 2

Co-Lin took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning when an Adrian Brown 2-RBI double scored Jordan Antley and Jeremy Moore. Brown also singled in the first inning.

Those would be the only runs that Co-Lin could manufacture as East Mississippi went up for good in the fourth, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Drew Standland.

The Lions were sparked by Standland and JoVaughn McNabb, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs. East Mississippi increased their lead with four runs in the sixth inning. An error scored Standland for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Dylan Vuncannon’s single, plating Kyle Liberto and Corley Reynolds.

Jeremy Moore went 2-5 for Co-Lin, with a single and a double. Antley, Wesley Watts, and Reed Taylor all hit safely for Co-Lin.

Freshman Cole Langdon took the loss on the hill after giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings of work. Langdon (2-2) struck out two and walked three.

East Mississippi 8, Co-Lin 6

Again Co-Lin went up early on East Mississippi and again it was Adrian Brown who did the damage for the Wolves. Brown hit a 3-run homerun that scored Wesley Watts and Kewaun May and gave Co-Lin a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning.

East Mississippi answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Jordan Antley ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs in 3.2 innings, walked two, and struck out one.

Co-Lin cut the lead to 8-5 in the fifth inning when Brown picked up his fourth RBI of the day. This one came on a groundout and scored Austin Resser. Co-Lin continued to apply more pressure, cutting the Lion lead to 8-6 in the sixth inning when Choc Hubbard began the inning with a solo homerun. Antley followed that with an RBI single that scored Garrett Goodwin. However the inning would end on that same play when Resser was thrown out at the plate.

Ryan Rigby set the Wolves down in order to pick up the save in the top of the seventh.

Co-Lin (8-12, 1-5 Division) returns to action on Wednesday, March 25 when they travel to Ellisville for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Jones County Bobcats. Listen to a live broadcast of the games at www.colinathletics.com or on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.colin
