Dixie National Equine and Junior Round-Up Livestock Shows Kick Off This Weekend

JACKSON, Miss. – The 60th Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo is underway at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds. Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson invites the public to attend the multiple livestock and equine shows scheduled to take place over the next month, many of which are free to attend.

The Fire It Up Team Roping event will be held this Saturday and Sunday, January 25-26, at 8:00 a.m. in the Kirk Fordice Equine Center. Team roping requires close cooperation and timing between two highly skilled ropers, a header and a heeler, and their horses. The two mounted riders work together to rope a steer as quickly as possible.

In addition, the annual Dixie National Horse and Mule Color Bonanza Show begins Wednesday, January 29, and runs through Sunday, February 2. This show starts at 8:00 a.m. daily and features mules and donkeys in its long ear division of all colors and sizes, as well as being open to horses of all colors and disciplines. Multiple registries will be represented, and exhibitors have come from as far away as Nebraska, North Carolina, Florida, Alaska and beyond. This is one of the largest mule and donkey shows in the nation and also features equine with the American Ranch Horse Association and Palomino Horse Breeders Association.

The Junior Round-Up Livestock Shows, a major part of the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo, will also kick off next week. Mississippi 4-H and FFA exhibitors from around the state will compete for the title of Reserve and Grand Champions, and a spot at the coveted Sale of Junior Champions. The annual Sale of Junior Champions is the culmination of the Dixie National Junior Round-Up Livestock Shows, an auction where winning livestock exhibitors sell their animals and scholarships are awarded. Several sheep and goat shows begin next week, starting with the Meat Goat Shows on Tuesday, January 28, at 8:00 a.m. inside Barn 14.

The Dixie National Rodeo takes place Friday, February 7, through Sunday, February 9, and Wednesday, February 12, through Saturday, February 15, in the Mississippi Coliseum.

Dixie National Rodeo performances are as follows:

  • Friday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. – Sam Barber
  • Saturday, February 8, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – George Birge
  • Sunday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. – Lorrie Morgan
  • Wednesday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m. – Clay Walker
  • Thursday, February 13, at 7:00 p.m. – Zach Top (Concert-only tickets available)
  • Friday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m. – Ella Langley (Concert-only tickets available)

The 2025 Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo will run through February 16, 2025.
