District Attorney Chris Hennis has released his office’s report on the March 2021 Simpson County term of court. The Court term ended on Thursday April 1, 2021. The following defendants entered guilty pleas and were sentenced by the Court upon recommendation of the District Attorney’s Office.
Justin Dickerson, 19 years old, entered a plea of guilty to the crime of Exploitation of a Child. The charge stemmed from sexually explicit photographs and videos of minors that were discovered on his cell phone. Dickerson was sentenced to 40 years in MDOC custody with 20 years to serve incarcerated without the possibility of parole. Once released from prison, Dickerson will have to register as a sex offender and will spend the next 20 years on probation. His arrest and subsequent charge resulted from a report from a concerned citizen. This was a joint investigation between the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Tremaine Norwood entered a plea of guilty to the crime of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 10 years in MDOC custody with 5 years to serve incarcerated.
Jeffery Craft entered a plea of guilty to the crime of Felony Fleeing and was sentenced to 5 years in MDOC custody with 2 years to serve incarcerated.
Dearrius Gray entered a plea of guilty to the crime of Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in MDOC custody with 4 years to serve incarcerated. Due to the nature of his crime, Gray will have to serve every day of his sentence.
Lawrence McNair entered a guilty plea to 3 counts of Auto Burglary and was sentenced to serve 21 years in MDOC custody with 10 years to serve incarcerated and then 11 years on probation.
Tommy James Jr. entered a guilty plea to the charges Burglary of Non-dwelling and Auto Burglary. James was sentenced to 14 years in MDOC custody with 7 of those years to be served day for day as a habitual offender followed by 7 years on probation. In addition to burglarizing a vehicle, James burglarized Fernando’s Mexican Restaurant in Magee, MS.
Deangelo Carter entered a guilty plea to the charge of Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and was sentenced to 3 years in MDOC custody.
Jorge Torres entered a guilty plea to the charge of Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and was sentenced to 3 years in MDOC custody.
Sylvia Cook, 66 years old, entered a guilty plea to multiple charges of Fraudulent Use of Another’s Identity and was sentenced to a total of 20 years in MDOC custody with 8 years to serve incarcerated.
