MENDENHALL — Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson, a Simpson County native, spoke to members of the Republican Women of Simpson County during their April 1, 2026 meeting, highlighting his experience and outlining his vision as a candidate for governor.

Gipson recently announced his candidacy for Governor of Mississippi, bringing with him a diverse background in public service and private industry. He currently serves as Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce and previously represented Simpson County and surrounding areas in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 2007 to 2018.

In addition to his public service, Gipson is a business attorney with experience in real estate, forestry, and cattle operations. During his remarks, he discussed ongoing efforts across the state to address and help alleviate the food supply challenges facing Mississippi.

The meeting was called to order by President Lisa Givens. Dale Simon opened the gathering with a devotion and prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Karen Moseley. Minutes from the previous meeting were presented by Krissi Kahn, and the treasury report was given by Renae Miller. Judy Yates introduced Gipson as the featured speaker.

The Republican Women of Simpson County meet on the first Thursday of each month at the E911 building in Mendenhall at 11:00 AM.  Meetings are open to the public.

The organization will host a social and dinner on April 27 at Jose’s, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Featured guests for the evening will include Representative Noah Sanford and State Page Wilkes Berry.
