colonialchapelfuneralDelmas G. McAlpin of Magee died of Heart failure on Oct 20, 2015 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services will be held Friday October 23, 2015 at 11:00am at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery in Magee. Bro. Buddy Keyes will officiate. Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held between 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday October 22, 2015 at Colonial Chapel Funeral in Magee.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel McAlpin and he grew up in Mt. Olive. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School and attended Mississippi College and the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. McAlpin married Johnnell Kennedy of Magee in 1949 and moved to Jackson.
They just celebrated 65 years of marriage on Thursday October 15, 2015. He worked as a salesman for S. N. Thomas & Sons traveling the Delta area. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years during the Korean War. In 1958 he and his wife moved back to Magee to go into business. They owned Delmas Department Store on Main Street for 24 years. He retired from the U.S. Post office after 30 years. Mr. McAlpin was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a deacon. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an outdoors sportsman loving deer hunting, turkey hunting and fishing. Delmas liked people and had many friends, both old and young. He enjoyed cooking special dishes and inviting the family to eat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Audell McAlpin; sisters-in-law, Louise Robertson( Vernon) and Berna Dean King(Billy) and Corine Kennedy.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Johnnell Kennedy McAlpin of Magee; sister, Lynda McAlpin Oswalt (Randy) of Vicksburg; sister-in-law, Jean Mize (Charles) of Kingwood, TX; six nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be: Randy Oswalt, Dale Cordes, Tom McAlpin, Jimmy Mangum, Ricky Bratcher, Josh Bratcher, Jason Hillman, and Ryan Mize.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tom Sparks, Joe Monk, Don O’ Cain, Ted Allen, Louis Roberts, First Baptist Church of Magee Sunday School Class, and Coffee club.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Magee or Sharon Cemetery in Magee.
