CHRISTMAS HIT COMEDY COMES TO HATTIESBURG

The Hub City Players present a limited engagement performance of the hysterical comedy, A Tuna Christmas, backstage at the Mannoni Performing Arts Center, December 8 – 11, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. Following on their series of acclaimed plays, Steel Magnolias and The Play That Goes Wrong, this holiday sensation is a send-up of small-town life as they prepare for the holidays. Returning to the stage are two of the stars of this summer’s FestivalSouth opener, Joe Van Zandt and Nolan Lee, who take on the tour de force roles of a lifetime playing ALL of the 20+ residents of this fictional town of Tuna, Texas. Tickets are on sale now exclusively at hubcityplayers.com.

The production is made possible with the generous support of Lee’s Tax and Accounting, Hattiesburg Cycles, and the promotional support of FestivalSouth. Featuring master comedians Van Zandt and Lee, playing everyone in the cast with their deft comedic timing, hysterical characterizations, and split-second costume changes, this is the comedy to put you in the holiday spirit!

“I saw this play in Austin many years ago and have always wanted to do it here,” said director, Mike Lopinto. “Its many familiar characters found me recognizing people I knew and as well as myself. I laughed out loud so many times, I knew we had to make it happen in Hattiesburg.”

It’s 24-hours before Christmas in Tuna, Texas, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. The delightfully eccentric characters are attempting to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster-prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard-decorating contest being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom.

The audience will get a unique experience backstage at the Mannoni Performing Arts Center, entering through the back door and taking their place on the main stage along with the actors.

“We did this for our production of Steel Magnolias and everyone was spellbound to be on the stage that has seen some of the greatest performances in Hattiesburg,” said producer Tammy Mansfield. “This is the show you can bring your adult family to and laugh until you cry.”

The production is directed by Mike Lopinto with the Hub City Players team including Tammy Mansfield, costumes; Wes Hanson, set design; Samantha Clark, stage manager; Patricia Garner and Sara Hale.

Tickets and more information are available at hubcityplayers.com.
