By James Davis
The Scriptural passage selected for today is found in Matthew 10:42: “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” The apostle is quoting the very words of Jesus, Who is addressing the subject of charity in giving, especially with regard to the poor and less fortunate. We Christians should be be generous and give freely, because, as the BIBLE tells us, the Lord loves a cheerful giver, and we have the assurance that we will be rewarded with such a bounty blessings that we’ll not be able to receive them all. Amen! This reminds me of a line from an old song made popular during the Great Depression of the 1930s: “A cup of cold water in charity given is remembered with joy in the sky.” I believe the song was entitled “Six Feet of Earth.” I used to own the 78 rpm record, long since broken and discarded. The sentiment, however, remains fixed in memory.
Happy Monday!
