Chevron continues support of MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering programs
STARKVILLE, Miss.—Chevron is continuing its support of Mississippi State University engineering programs with an investment to help fund student scholarships, laboratory spaces in Starkville and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and more.
Company officials presented a check for $383,000 during a recent MSU visit. The gift is part of a $1.15 million pledge to support the Bagley College of Engineering over the next three years. In addition to financially supporting the university, Chevron is one of the leading employers of MSU engineering alumni.
“The entire Bagley College of Engineering has benefitted from the programs supported by our long-term relationship with Chevron,” Bagley College of Engineering Dean Jason M. Keith said. “For years, students have benefitted from scholarship support. In addition to these scholarships, this most recent gift will support several exciting projects.”
The contribution will support a new laboratory in the planned new campus building which will be the home of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. It also will help fund a thermo-fluids lab on the Gulf Coast, which is part of the university’s Engineering on the Coast program in partnership with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Chevron made a $150,000 donation to help grow the Engineering on the Coast program in 2015. The partnership with MGCCC allows students to receive a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from MSU without leaving the Gulf Coast. The company also supports the Chevron Engineering Transfer Program, which helps minority engineering students transferring into MSU, as well as student competition teams and engineering student organizations. Overall, Chevron has invested more than $2.9 million at Mississippi State over the last six years.
