Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The burial will follow in Unity Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Shields will officiate. The music will be provided by Mrs. Cindy Shields.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. (601) 785-6564

Mrs. Yeager was known and loved by so many people that her life impacted.  How people will remember her is by role she played in their life.  Many people will remember her as a “band parent”, always following the Taylorsville High School Band to the many games and competitions making sure all students had what they needed and serving as chaperone.  Others will remember her as a “scout mom”.  She raised two Eagle Scouts both of whom hold vigil honors.  Her impact in the Pine Burr Area Council of Boy Scouts was such that all that new her called her “Ma Yeager.”  She used her seamstress skills to make band uniforms, scout related uniforms and costumes and wedding dresses.  She could do it all.

Barbara had a giving heart which led her to become a Registered Nurse.  She served in several roles as a nurse but the one that she treasured the most was her service to United States Veterans at the G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Hospital.  As a charge nurse she led her staff to seek and provide the best treatment and care for her patient.  During her tenure there, she was recognized with a great number of commendations and awards.  To them she was a nurse, a leader, a surrogate mom and a friend.  She was an advocate for those who often did not have a voice of their own.  In addition to her work at the VA, she also served as a Community Mental Health Commissioner for Smith County as well as a member of the Human Rights Committee at Ellisville State School for over two decades.  She also served as camp nurse for many years after she retired for TEAAM Autism’s summer camps for youth and adults with autism.

Barbara’s role, which she loved more than any of those mentioned, was that of being Mawmaw.  She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren most in the world.  She always would travel to any event or activity she could to see her greatest joys shine in her eyes.  As her health failed, she was not able to attend the things she wanted but would always give instructions to, “take lots of pictures!”  They all made her proud and she loved seeing their lives unfold.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Lee Yeager; step-father, Lee Hardin; mother, Margaret Drew Hardin; father Reginald Buffkin and an infant brother.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Horren Rudolph Yeager of Taylorsville, MS; son, Dr. Mark Yeager of Purvis, MS; grandchildren, Drew Yeager of South Korea, Garrett Yeager (Anna) of Tupelo, MS, Tiffani Minchew (Matt) of Meridian, MS, and Mason Yeager of Petal, MS; great- grandchildren, Carsyn Minchew, Lynlee Minchew, Madden Minchew, Emma Yeager, and one soon to arrive, Grayson Yeager.

Pallbearers will be Mason Yeager, Garrett Yeager, Matt Minchew, Joe Hardin, Rodger Pardue, and John Bryant.
