Katina’s Klassroom recently gave away school supplies to the Simpson County School District. It was all part of the Backpack and Books Giveaway event.
The books were delivered to central headquarters’ office for the special giveaway. The goal was to help homeless families in the county with their back-to-school expenses.
“Katina’s Klassroom stands on a firm principle: With Books You Can Go Places. #READ. Thus, our mission is to significantly improve the reading skills and educational opportunities of pre-k to middle school children in underserved communities. This giveaway is just one way to help alleviate the financial burden families face every year,” said Katina Rankin, a Simpson County Native, product of Magee Schools and founder of the nonprofit.
“When you think about it, a simple backpack is going to get students through the entire school year. It’s $20 to $30 families don’t have to spend on a backpack,” Rankin continued.
“It means so much to us whenever the community does reach out and help our students. It may go unnoticed to some; but especially for students and staff, donations are invaluable for those who really need help,” said Simpson County Superintendent Dr. Paul Lawrence.
One of Katina’s Klassroom partners in the effort was Delta Industries, Inc.

In addition to backpacks, students received paper, folders, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, pencil holder bags, highlighters, crayons, rulers, scissors, glue sticks, tissues, children’s books, and more.

“We are honored to have community members who partner with us to provide positive experiences for the students of Simpson County. Your efforts are greatly appreciated as we strive to let every student know they are loved and valued,” said Simpson County Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Operations.
“Underserved does not mean unwilling to learn or fulfill dreams. It’s our job to encourage and nurture the future generations of America. It is without hesitation Katina’s Klassroom helps provide joy to children, so they feel happy, confident and proud to go back-to-school,” said former Jackson news anchor and Katina’s Klassroom’s chairman of the board Jessica Bowman.
“Katina’s Klassroom is undoubtedly one of the most selfless non-profits working to make children feel valued, loved and appreciated,” Bowman said.
