Amy Akers Purser of Magee was recently selected as Mendenhall Elementary’s 2015-16 Teacher of the Year.
Amy joined the MES family in 2010 after graduating from USM with a BS in elementary education with reading and science endorsements.
Prior to teaching, Amy enjoyed a career in geriatric nursing; however, her love of children and inspiration from her beloved mother and multiple Teacher of the Year recipient, the late Judy Akers, promoted Amy to pursue a career teaching elementary aged students. Amy says that teaching is one of the most fulfilling aspects of her life and that what she most enjoys about the profession is being a positive part of her student’s lives and helping them grow into lifelong learners.
